After a lifetime working as a lawyer, I became a manager and director of a clothing manufacturing company in London. On behalf of the owner, I went to live in Tunisia in December 2010—just in time to witness and photograph the Tunisian revolution.
In November 2011, I returned to the UK and, after taking a number of courses, began teaching English as a second language. Since then, I have worked on the Italian mainland, in Sicily, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Poland, and, finally, Spain—helping students aged from 9 to over 70. Their reasons for learning have ranged from necessity to curiosity to professional advancement, but the focus has always been on real-world communication and, where needed, exam preparation.
I have tried to bring a practical, human approach to language learning. These materials focus on clarity, fluency, and confidence—not grammar rules.
I have been taking photographs most of my life. When I started helping people develop their English, I found that my photos enabled discussion. So I have included a selection here.
These books are the result of experience, built on the belief that language learning should be engaging, empowering, and rooted in authentic use. They are graded from B1, intermediate, level to C2, Native Speaker, level. I have included a Language Function Reference book for all levels with workbooks at, again, different levels.
