TOLES- Legal English

Having been a lawyer for 40 years, I fully understand both the way in which lawyers communicate and the English legal system.

My preferred course is TOLES (Test of Legal English Skills), a series of exams from Foundation level to Advanced level, designed to assess practical legal English used by lawyers, law students, and legal professionals, especially those working internationally or dealing with clients and documents in English. TOLES focuses on real-world legal vocabulary, drafting, reading comprehension of legal texts, and professional communication, rather than purely academic or general English.

TOLES has three levels—Foundation, Higher, and Advanced—each designed to build practical legal English skills for lawyers and legal professionals. It is recognised both in the UK by leading law firms and the Law Society, and internationally by the Court of Justice of the European Union.
